Plastic Casket Handles

Two kinds of plastic handle

Plastic casket handles account for 41 catalogue items, in two families: cremation casket handles with 21 items, and plastic handles reinforced with a steel bar or wire, with 20 items. The distinction between them is the point of the category, because only the reinforced family is load-bearing in the same sense as a metal handle. Plain plastic pieces are decorative, and the company's own material guide states that distinction plainly.

Plastic handles are ABS or PP injection mouldings, vacuum metallised and coloured gold, silver, copper or bronze, with some ABS available in antique brass or antique copper. Vacuum metallising gives a metallic appearance to a plastic body, which is why plastic handles are often chosen where a metallic look is wanted at a lower weight and cost than a cast handle.

Cremation handles are made for cremation caskets, where the handle is used for carrying before cremation and the casket itself is designed for that process. The cremation handle page describes that use, and the selection guide explains how a cremation casket producer chooses between a reinforced plastic handle and a metal handle.

Which plastic handles carry a load rating

Steel-reinforced plastic handles are the load-bearing family in this category. The company's load bands put light or reinforced plastic at 35 to 50 kilograms per piece, which is well below the metal bands, and a buyer must not assume a metal rating for a plastic handle. The sampled Reference 9005, an ABS or PP handle, is rated at 50 kilograms per piece, with a minimum of 1000 pieces and a lead time of 30 days.

Plain plastic pieces carry no load rating. That includes plain plastic handles that are not reinforced, and all plastic ornaments. The category pages mark decorative families as decorative, and the load-testing guide repeats the rule, because the most common error in specifying plastic hardware is to treat a decorative piece as if it were load-bearing.

A buyer who needs a load-bearing plastic handle should therefore name the reinforced family, confirm the model rating from its own product page, and confirm the bar or wire reinforcement. A buyer who needs a decorative plastic piece should name the ornament family and confirm the finish only, since no rating is involved.

Finishes and ordering

Plastic colours are gold, silver, copper and bronze, with antique brass and antique copper available on some ABS. Because vacuum-metallised colours vary on screen, the finish guide recommends matching against a physical sample, and samples are available for most products before a bulk order.

The minimum order quantity varies by product and is shown on each product page. The sampled plastic handle has a minimum of 1000 pieces, but that is one model, not a category rule. Lead time is typically 30 days after order confirmation, with some models at 35 to 45 days. Payment is by telegraphic transfer or letter of credit, and shipments leave Wenzhou by full or less than container load.

For repeat orders, confirm the finish again, because the colour of a metallised plastic can shift between runs. The repeat-order guide explains how to phrase that confirmation, and the company profile identifies colour consistency across repeat orders as a buyer concern.
