Casket Metal Fittings

Casket metal fittings account for 18 items. Fittings are the metal parts that complete a casket's hardware set beyond handles, crucifixes and ornaments: the smaller cast and formed pieces that hold, join and finish the hardware. They are ordered in the same finish as the handles, so that the whole casket reads as one set.

Most fittings are Zamak #3 die castings, hand polished and plated in gold, nickel, antique brass, antique copper or chrome, with steel used where a fitting forms part of a load path. The distinction matters: a finishing fitting is specified by finish and size, while a fitting that forms part of a load path is specified by finish, size and model rating together.

Where a fitting is part of swing-bar hardware, the category band for heavy cast handles and swing-bar hardware is 200 to 300 kilograms per piece, but that band describes the family, not a single fitting, and the model page governs. A buyer should therefore name the fitting, state whether it forms part of a load path, and confirm the model facts from its own product page.

The minimum order quantity varies by product, lead time is typically 30 days after order confirmation, and payment is by telegraphic transfer or letter of credit. Shipments leave Wenzhou by full or less than container load. For repeat orders, confirm the finish again.

Completing a hardware set

Fittings complete a hardware set, and their role is to join, hold and finish the larger pieces. A set without its fittings is incomplete, however good its handles are, because the fittings are what hold the handles to the casket and finish the edges and joints. A buyer ordering a set should therefore list the fittings explicitly, rather than assuming that they are included with the handles, and should confirm the finish for the fittings as well as for the handles.

Where a fitting forms part of a load path, its model rating should be confirmed together with the handle rating, because the assembly's rating depends on every part in the path. Where a fitting is purely a finishing piece, finish and size are the relevant facts. The distinction should be made fitting by fitting, not for the category as a whole, because the category contains both kinds of fitting.

Checking a fitting sample

A fitting sample should be checked in place, with the handles and other fittings it must work with, because a fitting that looks correct on its own may not work in the assembly. Check the finish against the handles, check the fit against the casket, and, where the fitting forms part of a load path, check the model rating against the requirement. A fitting that passes those three checks can be ordered with confidence, while a fitting that fails any of them should be raised before a quantity is ordered, since a fitting failure in an assembly affects the whole casket, not just the fitting.
